IGNOU extended deadline for Admission and Re-registration

In a recent announcement, Indira Gandhi National Open University has extended the last date to apply for admission to its Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programs for the January 2026 session. Earlier, the deadline for submitting applications was 15 February 2026. Students can now submit for IGNOU Admission by the extended last date of 28 February 2026 through the official admission portal @ignou.ac.in.

The extension has been granted to give additional time to candidates who were unable to complete the admission process earlier. Applicants are required to fill out the online form, upload the necessary documents and pay the prescribed fee before the revised deadline. 

Meanwhile, the re-registration process for existing students has also been extended by IGNOU for the January 2026 session. The last date for the IGNOU re-registration was 15 February 2026 now it has been extended till 28 February 2026 and students can apply through the official portal. The university has informed that a late fee of INR 200 will be charged for candidates submitting their forms after the earlier deadline. 

How to Apply for IGNOU Admission 2026

  • Step 1: Visit the official IGNOU admission portal @ignou.ac.in.
  • Step 2: Register as a new user by providing a valid email ID and mobile number.
  • Step 3: Log in and fill out the online application form with personal and academic details.
  • Step 4: Select the desired program and choose the study mode: ODL or Online.
  • Step 5: Upload the required documents, including a photograph, a signature and relevant certificates.
  • Step 6: Pay the applicable program fee through the available online payment options.
  • Step 7: Submit the form and download the confirmation page for future reference.

List of Required Documents for IGNOU Admission

As per the guidelines issued by IGNOU applicants must upload the required documents while submitting the online admission form. Candidates are advised to upload the documents in the prescribed format to avoid any delay or rejection of their application. The documents include:

  • Recent passport-size photograph (scanned copy)
  • Scanned signature
  • Mark sheets and certificates of the qualifying examination
  • Valid government-issued ID proof (such as Aadhaar card)
  • Category or caste certificate (if applicable)
  • Experience certificate (if required for specific programs)
